Would it be against any laws to run a dog training class in a council maintained local park and be paid for the class by each individual attending? Before anyone jumps in, this is not my idea to do this, it is just that I know of someone already doing this and I simply wondered if they were entitled to do so and as such were being very enterprising.

if the council have given theri permission i dont see why not. I help run a flyball class on a locaLLY PARRISH COUNCIL OWNED PLAYING FIELD, AND WE CHARGE, wE HAVE THE PERMISSION OF THE COUNCIL AND also insurance incase any of the dogs maul a passerby!
My god, that was a singularly badly-typed answer!
Sorry.
All councils have byelaws relating to parks and public spaces. I'm one of the boring nerds who actually reads them and, while byelaws can vary from one area to another, I've never seen any that don't prohibit unauthorised commercial activities.

For example, Lambeth's byelaws state; "No person shall without the consent of the Council provide or offer to provide any service for which a charge is made".

Chris
however, the person might well have permission

thanks, I have looked on my Council's website, but was unable to find anything and the parks don't have boards outside anymore with the bye-laws or even the name of the park, apart from asking the person whether they have permission from the Council, which I am loathe to do as they are not the sort of person you would want to meet on a dark night!, I guess I'll never know, but thanks anyway.
you could just ring the council and ask!
