I recently took voluntary redundancy and receieved a substantial redundancy payment the first £30k of which was tax-free. My former employer now wants to rehire me on a short-term (6 weeks - paid by the hour) contract. If I take up their offer will the IR demand that I pay tax on my tax-free lump sum? I left the company about 3 months ago.

No.......I went back to mine as a consultant and my tax-free lump sum was unaffected.
