can someone please tell me, why would the police be taking pictures of the inside of a burned down house? its my mum's friends house and when we walked past the house has nothing left in it. It is completely empty! we asked the fireman is everyone got out and he said they did. the police had just left as we arrived and when we went back later they were back and this time they were taking photo's of the inside. is this common procedure?

It's probably just formality ,to find out how the fire started before anything gets disturbed
Keep away or police will take your DNA etc - for any excuse they can find.
as above, they need to rule out or confirm if there has been any crime committed. once the scene is cleared any evidence will be gone.

That's what I was going to say, Peacock suit. This seems as daft as the fire service investigating a burglary.
The fire service might as well investigate burglaries, the police never do!
