The website below contains application forms to apply for a visa for the uk (BUT can only be used if you NOT in the UK at the moment).

ht/tp://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/vafs
If see is already in the UK then look at the following website:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workinginthe uk/

There are different forms depending on what kind of work she wants to do.
As I dont't know you're situation, it may be the case that you're wife has permission to remain in the UK for up to two years, but not indefinitely.

If so the following website should also be looked at which is for indefinite permission to remain in the UK.

Is she in tghe UK at the moment?

If so should be easy if not you need to apply for a spouse /settlement visa and then go on and obtain ILR.

My best friend is half Turkish and we have a Turkish neighbour - my understanding is when Turkish citizens have come here on a spouse/settlement visa they can work - they apply for a national insurance number.

Check out a few of the Turkish forums
If she is still in Turkey - you need to start collecting the documents, recording msn conversations get prints of telephone bills detailing numbers , basically evidence that you are indeed a couple.

I'd say it is easier for a guy to bring a Turkish wife here than a girl to bring a Turksih guy.

Good luck

Thank you so much for your help so far.
My wife has a National Insurance number which she received before we got married.
She originally came over on an Au Pairs visa which expires at the end of October.
We want to live here permanently but I have seen that it costs 820 for the application for indefinite leave to remain to be processed - Is that right?
We both live here in the UK and want to settle down and get on with our lives but with all this expense, it is getting somewhat difficult to relax until we know where we stand.
Assuming the application goes through ok, can she start working after that or is that a different visa?(it's all so confusing!!)
Finally how long does it take for these visa applications to be processed?
Thank you

I have also seen that to apply for a COA (certificate of Approval) is now free and became so less than one month after we applied for ours so do we have any rights to claim that money back seeing as potentially we have a lot more money to pay out in the weeks to come?
Finally, I have heard that now we are married, my wife is automatically granted leave to remain for two further years. (her au pair visa which she came here on expires at the end of October)
Thank you
No she won't automatically be granted as you are married, she would need to apply for further leave to remain in the UK as a spouse. If her au pair visa was for more than 6 months she can apply to "switch" from an au pair to a spouse visa. (Someone with a visa of less than 6 months cannot switch and would have to go back home to get a visa to come back to the UK). This spouse visa will be for 2 years and will allow her to work, and after the 2 years she can apply for indefinite leave to remain. She must apply for the spouse visa before her au pair visa expires otherwise she could be deported.

The application could take months if submitted by post (although I think you can go in person and get it done the same day) and in the meantime she will only be able to work as the au pair for the family she originally worked for. The other option is to go back to Turkey to get the visa there. It won't take as long, and you can have a holiday while you are there. It also costs less. The rules are just the same as applying in-country so she won't be any worse off.

Hope that helps.
