We have recently paid off our mortgage after years of slavery. Two questions please.
When do we get the deeds returned to us?
How easy is it to now add my daughter's name to the title deeds? She is an adult and lives at home with us and will have the house when we shuffle off this mortal coil.
Many thanks.

How old is the house? The deeds are largely irrelevant nowadays - it's what's on the Registered Title at the Land Registry that counts. There may not be any deeds if the house is fairly new.

Telephone your local land registry for the fee and form to add your daughter.
You should get propert advice of the potential ramifications of doing this with regard to possible care you both may need in the future.

Deeds can be far more than just a copy of the title register and can include documents which may be required on any sale or remortgage which would potentially cost to acquire otherwise.

Ring your mortgage lender and ask to check what deeds they hold and their procedures for returning them.
Deeds are no longer updated if the title is registered, so no lender or buyer would use the information on them - they would always check the Registered Title (3 to download)
