my eldest son is 15 yrs old.Is he old enough to work part-time ?

My son wants money in his pocket but doesnt want a paper round as it doesnt pay particularly well ! Is he old enough to legally work part-time ? Thx for any help.

I think you can work at 15 with strict restrictions on hours, but 16 is the age for applying to supermarkets saturday jobs etc. A family-run shop or buisness will probably take him on though.
I worked part-time in my local co-op store when I was fifteen but was only allowed by law to work certain hours because of my age. I just worked the one shift on a sunday but i'm sure that others worked both saturday and sunday. As far as I am aware , supermarkets and larger stores will employ teenagers at fifteen but his best bet is to ask in all the shops which he would consider working in to see if they are recruiting and leave his contact details with them in case a vacancy arises within the company. Most companies start recruiting around the oct/nov mark for Christmas temps , so if he gets his name down with a company just now , he might get a start in the near future. I hate to say it but a lot of companies thrive on teenagers applying to work for them because they don't have to shell out as much in salary. Good luck to him though , I hope he gets something x
How about giving him a few bob for washing ur car (if u have one) at the weekend....I used to do it around 15 ...much better than doing it urself or those auto thingies...
I used to manage a store for a national chain. While it was legal for us to employ 15 year olds, the restrictions on the hours they could work meant that we didn't, as it was not practical to do so. As others have said, an independent/family store may be a better bet (though probably only because they aren't aware of the restrictions). BTW, I suspect that the minimum wage for a 15 year old (which is probably what most would pay) isn't great!
hey, i started working part-time when i was only 15. I was desperate for a job to get some of my own money -- i went into my local Mace store, and asked if they were recruiting. when they said no, i asked if i would be able to leave my name and number so that if a space came up, they could possibly consider me. So, that i did, then a few weeks after, the manager rung me up and asked me if i was still looking for a job. I was delighted!! Although, the manager made sure my mum was OK with me selling cigarettes, as i was only 15. But Mum was peachy about it all!! :) Saying that, pay was only �2.50, but good enough for my age at the time! Good Luck on your conquest! :)
At 15 he is legally a child. No child may be employed during school hours; before 7am or after 7pm; for more than 2 hours on a school day or Sunday; in any industrial undertaking; or in any job where they are likely to suffer injury from lifting, carrying or moving heavy items.
