The firm I work for put up a sign 2 days ago stating that it was against the law to smoke in the building, when in fact it wont be till July 1st. Are they within their rights to do this?

They are within their rights to ban smoking inside the premises at any time, regardless of the law.

To claim it is against the law at the moment is a nonsense, but it could be they are determined to be ready for the 1st July.

So yes, they can stop you smoking inside the building now, but only as part of their policy.
