Do you agree with this?

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/may/25/wales-to-ban-smoking-outside-hospitals-and-schools-in-uk-first

Wales is to become the first country in the UK to ban smoking in outdoor school spaces, playgrounds and hospital grounds.

I like the idea of 'de-normalising' smoking. Making it seem somehow seedy. I say this as someone who smoked and LOVED IT for many years.

But...I think this might be a good idea.

Bang on chill, most smokers don't know how bad they smell, years ago on here we had a smoker who always claimed she didn't smell, got nasty about it. Many a reformed smoker has commented, like yourself that they were oblivious to the smell so thanks for your honesty.
After some 50 years of smoking I am trying to give it up, yet I still smell due to Mrs B enjoying her fags.
Yes, I am I total agreement with this, good on Wales! The argument about passive smoking is irrelevant. Not everybody in direct contact with smokers dies from passive smoking, just as not every smoker dies from lung cancer, but both things are certainly contributory. And spath, this thread is about cigarettes, NOT drink or exhaust fumes !!

why don't you start your own thread about any or all of the 15 or subjects you have tried to use to derail this thread eh?

I'm not missing the point spath, you are going off at tangents, why don't you consider what TTT says ??
Aww spath, don't go for good x (I'm not being sarcastic either).
any of us can pick a parallel with another subject on most threads, we are talking about smoking here.
I haven't smoked in the areas as outlined in the article for many a year, so it doesn't seem a problem certainly to me.

When I did smoke in Hospital grounds I simply found out where the nurses went - never outside the front door.
Smoking in the open air is to be banned?

I reckon I take more lungfuls of crap walking down The Strand from Charing Cross from the diesel fumes than I do from from people having a puff.

Had I come to this thread earlier, I'd have beaten TTTs countdown by stating the fact that smokers are net contributors.

Not that I have to give justification, but I'm not a smoker. I do however feel they are unjustly being considered pariahs.
Is that funeral pariah?

I shall obtain my gaberdine forthwith.....
You learn to shrug it off after a few decades DD.
As I have pointed out earlier, I only smoke within the confines of my own flat, never outdoors. That way I am harming no-one except possibly myself. Or so I thought. Last year we all had new kitchens installed. I was told by the Clerk of Works in no uncertain terms that I was forbidden to smoke in my flat whilst workmen were in the building (Elf'n Safety. doncha know). The irony was not lost on me when every 30 minutes or so the said workmen would disappear outside for a fag.
Soon smoking cigarettes in our own homes will be illegal, drink yourselves into stupidity, eat rubbish food then ?you will require someone to take you to the toilet because you are so obese, but DONT SMOKE in your own mortgage free home!! ( I don't smoke ).
