It can't last. Civilisations never do. They change all the time.
Maybe not too long if nuclear weapons are developed by rogue states who are prepared to use them to further their ideology.
I totally agree with TheLand. Within 20 years it looks like a new civilisation will evolve. The americans are already planning a moon base. When they get to mars in years to come, they should create a new world order, and get rid of all this politically correctness rubbish...
I don't think it will be nuclear wars or religious fanaticism that will destroy western civilisation, but something seemingly mundane like a worldwide loss of confidence in the capitalist, monetary system. I accept that may be heightened by fears of war and fanaticism, but the end of civilisation is rarely dramatic, more a forseeable, yet relentless decline.
For a start we in the UK can impeach Tony"Mr fake emotion" Blair and the US can do the same with G.W Bush(the village idiot). This action should at least ensure that civilisation lasts a bit longer!
More than 30 years ago I heard an American scientist say that the world need not fear the atomic bomb so much as human sexual energy.
The world is grossly overpopulated and some religious groups refuse to accept birth control .
But it is not only people who are the problem. Materials are being used up at a rate beyond our capacity to renew them.
The party if not yet over, is coming to an end and I feel genuine sympathy for those who have not lived a life as long as mine.
My greatest disappointment at dying is that I shall not know what will happen, but anyone who looks in Arnold Toynbee's 'Study of Histor'y'' will learn of his conclusions following investigation into the collapse of twenty civilisations. They all failed because of the introduction of (kind) 'socialism', replacing (unkind) authoritarian rule.
You have your liberal society; the consequences will surely follow.
