I contacted the police via 101 . I had a suspicion that my caravan, which has been parked on a relations property has been removed/ sold without my consent/ knowledge. I asked if a police if a police officer could just walk past the property and confirm if the caravan was there or not. I live 350 miles away so can’t look myself. There is an ongoing rift between me and the relation. Who doesn’t answer any of my phone calls /txts.
I had a txt off the police stating unless I can confirm the caravan is not there. They’re classing it as a civil matter. Can anyone explain how they class it as civil. How would they come to this conclusion.
Thanks.

Look up 'conversion' under the The Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977.
This might apply to your situation and is a civil matter.
"Examples of conversion are purchasing goods from a thief, selling someone else’s goods, misdelivery by a carrier, or destroying another’s goods."

This link is in plain English and explains it quite well https://www.claims.co.uk/knowledge-base/sales-law/wrongful-interference-with-goods
