Would This Put You Off Too?

I'm charged with choosing the venue for our Girl's Christmas Dinner....

One of the options we have used before.....good menu and atmosphere but recent reviews are a bit dodgy so last night a friend and I checked it out.

It wasn't great....mainly because of staff shortage....then I went to the ladies...

They were filthy.....not just recent mess from lots of customers.....long term and stomach turning filth....

Another lady and I looked for a while...shoes sticking to the floor before deciding we couldn't use them.....and I did report it.....


But....it's made me think about the state the kitchens could be in......

So...sadly....I shall have to check out some more possibilities......a chore I know.....☺

Gness - quite right! I always judge a place by the state of their loos!

..... and the attitude of their staff - making sure there are no CSR's (charm school rejects!) :)

Yes it wold totally put me off. If we go some where on the off chance,like a pub if we are out and about, we always get a drink , then visit the loo before deciding if we are eating there (not in the Loo obviously).

If it's dirt cheap then I'd organise me a few girls to personally give the toilets and kitchen a clean to "Our standards" but if it's an average price then I'd expect it to be spotless.

Are you going to be doing your own catering or is the price including the venue catering for you?

Another thing is the review could be from a rival upset that they're taking all the business away from them so maybe you should inspect it yourself to rule that out :)

Which planet are you on Henrietta? I can just imagine gness and 12 of her closest friends marching into a weatherspoons, furry rubber gloves in hand, bog cleaner to the ready telling then they are going to clean their kitchens lol!

I would spend a great deal of time checking out establishments, ensuring the bar area is spotless and timing/scoring each on how quickly a pint is served. Make sure you check out enough places so your judgement can be deemed to be fair ;)

Staff were nice, though a bit overworked, Ann.

It's a large, popular place, usual Christmas meal price.... and the reviews were from friends who have eaten their recently.....x

Many years ago we used to go to the Angel and Royal in MH for Hubby's works dinners - is it still there?

I thought that maybe gness was just hiring an empty hall and intended to do all of the work herself.

I think it would be wiser for me to get some breakfast and strong pot of coffee going before posting in the mornings as my eyes are still half closed :)

Ann...the Angel is for sure....we do eat at Ascough's which is great but not central enough for this...x

I'd be thinking....if a place has dirty public areas....what on Earth are the non-public areas like?

Of course it would put me off. I complimented the manager of a very large and spotless establishment and he said if you go somewhere and wouldn't want to use the toilets then don't use the restaurant.

Front of house is always cleaner than hidden areas so I'd be giving that a wide berth.
