my daughter has been charged with section 18 the lad she did it on provoked her and was threatening her in her flat cctv shows him going in and out the flat and messages on a phone show it to the lad was reluctant to give a police statement and stated this in his statement he also states he pushed her to it she grabbed a knife and tried scaring him out and slit his throat not deep he did have 5 stitches she was interview without a solicitor and said she caint remember there was alcohol involved can she say she was frightened of him and didnt mean to do it and claim self defence if not what will she get thank you in advance this is her first time for offences

Pedant. That is just rudeness.
If she is convicted of a Section 18 offence custody is about as inevitable as it gets. It is a serious offence which carries a maximum of Life imprisonment. The starting point for an offence at the lowest end of the seriousness range is 4 years.
As New Judge has told you, if she is convicted of S18 it is a virtual certain prison sentence. It MAY ( just may) be possible to get an agreement that if she pleads guilty to the less serious S20 the S18 will be dropped. She HAS to get a solicitor on this urgently. But do not get too hopeful , knife crime is viewed very seriously by the courts.
