Am I entitled to put a notice on my front door, " no Jehovah Witnesses" ? Just fed up with them knocking and I inadvertently open the door.

Probably not....something like no cold callers or canvassers more appropriate...
I have a sign saying no cold callers, no preachers.

It works!

Oh right, no doubt down to the PC business then, we certainly have to tread warily now don't we! Many thanks for your swift replies much obliged.

That would helpful Murray. I let rip at them this morning but falls on deaf ears as seems the norm. Your OH must have the knack lol.
I think he bored them into submission...!!
I do hope that you get it sorted but it reminded me of Mrs Browns Boys when she invited the American Preachers in .lol
I don't think you can state specifically.
A neighbour, many years ago, had a plaque on their gate, 'No Hawkers, No Circulars'
Doubt if that would work in these PC times though,
I've a No Cold Callers on my front Door, it's not working either, I just don't open the door these days.
You can download and print off a No Cold Callers poster from the web. My neighbour has one and it works.
I think you are quite entitled to put a sign on your private front door listing politely the people who you do not want to cold call you. on the grounds that you probably don't want Seventh Day Adventists or Mormons either, you might do better having a "no cold callers" notice.
You can but it won't stop them, I find a 'Save a life Give Blood' poster from your local blood transfusion centre works much better.
Hawker is in no way an offensive term.
Do what my Mother did many years ago. She opened the door to JWs and said she was busy cooking, and said she would get her husband to talk to them. She
returned to the kitchen, and said "Son, it's for you"...........the look on their face was classic, as I was only 16 at the time!!! They politely left!
My BIL used to tell them he was a card-carrying member of another religion, they didn't hang around.
I never have a problem getting rid of any cold caller. I say "no thank you, goodbye" and shut the door.
I'd say you are entitled to put such a notice.

And they are entitled to not see it and ignore it if they do
There is a house near us with a sign outside that reads:

"No Free Pappers"

I'll wager that they have never had any free "pappers" since putting the sign up.

I realise with any notice people might ignore it and usually if I have seen who is coming to the door I choose whether to open it, but it annoyed en so much yesterday because I was expecting a parcel and was upstairs and am somewhat disabled when having to hurry in walking so I was really teed off when I found out who it was. Think my best bet is to just put a notice saying no cold callers or religionists of any persuasion! That way it will upset all of em not just one group lol.
Whenever I get bible thumpers at the door my response is always "I'm sorry but I never discuss religion on the doorstep" They then get embarrassed and beat a very hasty retreat!
Next time they call, ask to be put on their list that they have of houses ,that says no calls, I did and it works.
