What Is It With Asda Car Parks?

Here we have two 60 plus men both who went out on a Saturday shopping trip, only for one to be killed and the other charged with his manslaughter, what a sorry state of affairs.

Can anyone in their wildest dreams understand that the simple fact that the first possession of a disabled parking space could lead to this?

But apparently this type of thing isn't an isolated occurrence.

/// In 2008 a soldier, Fusilier Andy Barlow, 21, was arrested for pushing a man during an argument over a disabled parking bay at Asda in Bolton. ///

/// Mr Barlow, who lost a foot while fighting in Afghanistan, was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault. ///

/// In 2007, a mother was assaulted in front of her two toddlers in an argument over a parking space at Asda. ///

/// Sarah Smith, 36, was slapped across the face when she confronted a man after he parked his car in a parent-and-child space at the supermarket in Fareham, Hampshire. ///

The moral over this is, if anyone cuts you up over a parking space, just let them have it, it's not worth the possible outcome to argue over it.

Could it be the areas where Asda choose to locate?

We have two Asdas ...

One is out in the wilds of bandit country.

One is at the ghastly Marina.

I think they could be picking the wrong locations for their stores?

Very wise advice.
My experience of supermarket car parks is that far too many non-disabled
people use them, with complete disregard for disabled peoples needs. I have complained to the Manager of our local Co-op about this but, although he sympathised, he said that his hands were tied.

Not sure if this is what happened in this case but it sounds likely.

Sadly there are a lot of Grumpy Old Men about.
Many abled bodied people are now highly suspicious of anyone with a car paid for out of mobility or using disabled parking spaces or blue badges. They automatically suspect them of cheating the system which fuels their rage.

One Asda I know of once had a barrier bar over the entrance to the special disabled car park area, and one had to take one's blue disabled badge into the store so as to register one's vehicle.

Once registered a device on the barrier recognised one's number plate, which in turn lifted the barrier, and ideal idea I thought, but after only a few weeks the barrier bar remained forever in the raised position for some strange reason.
I would never argue over a parking space anywhere, it is simply not worth it.

I recall driving down a narrow urban street with arfound twenty cars parked on one side, leaving one side free for the passage of vehciles. As i got to the end of the mine, a taxi came the other way, and entered the gap, meaning i could not proceed past the last vehicle.

When it became clear after a few seconds that he was not going to reverse the one car length needed to allow me to pass, I reveresed past the twenty or so cars i had passed, and pulled in to allow him to pass.

As he did so, he flashed two fingers at me.

Not a major issue for me, but my three-year-old who was in her car seat asked what the man with the nasty face meant with his hand.
never seen car parking rage in Waitrose, must be an Asda thing.
I have to agree with dave there.
....EcclesCake updates her list of reasons why she NEVER shops in Asda......
I get my shopping delivered so if I do pop into a supermarket it tends to be on the way to work when there is very few cars in the car park!!

Online shopping its the way to go!
Well this is an interesting debate, the death of the gentleman is indeed tragic.

As one who lives a five minute walk from a very friendly ASDA, I was unaware I lived in Bandit territory and also that Car park rage only happened in one supermarket car park.
I use the family bays when i borrow my grandchildren to shop at tesco , they are opposite the disabled bays, sitting there waiting for my grandkids and their mum to come out you see some sights, i watched a couple drive up and use the 3rd bay up, the woman was in her mid thirties and the bloke maybe late 20s, they got out of the car, got bags out of the boot and locked up, they walked to the car, then it appeared that the woman (the driver) had forgotten something, she jogged back to the car, opened the passenger side and leant into the back to collect another bag. She appeared to have no issues whatsoever. Confused me somewhat, maybe the fit bloke she came with in shorts and a vest had some disability that meant not only could he not drive he couldn;t walk from a bay further away, though the potential disability was not apparent. Perhaps it was sunstroke, he looked quite tanned.
I have a childseat permanently fitted so I can use the mother and baby spaces.
ludwig the number of mums with chelsea tractors and a an empty car seat would surprise you! they only park in the family bays because theit tractor is too wide for the normal bays
Ban men from Asda?
Remember getting told off for parking in a disabled parking bay by an assistant at Tesco. OK, he had a point, but it was 3 am and all 20+ disabled parking bays were empty as was most of the rest of the car park. I asked if he wanted me to move but he said it was OK to stay??

///I was unaware I lived in Bandit territory///

I think you'll find that was applied to a specific area of Brighton and not Asda locations in general!

(other Cities are available for comparison)
// ludwig the number of mums with chelsea tractors and a an empty car seat would surprise you! they only park in the family bays because theit tractor is too wide for the normal bays //

I complete the effect by carrying a plastic doll around the store in one of those rucksack things.
Beg pardon, it was somewhat of a knee-jerk reaction to....

//Could it be the areas where Asda choose to locate? //

Point taken and it is still a very sad tale.
