A woman I know(our children are friends), her husband went missing 2 nights ago. She was in the bath and her son was playing outside. When she got out of the bath he wasnt in the lounge. He had gone. Police called, still nothing. Has since found paperwork to the effect that he is in a huge hole moneywise . He hasnt taken his wallet or bank cards, just the clothes he was wearing. Anybody have any knowledge of this sort of thing and the likelyhood of the person coming home quickly? Nobody knows quite what to do, apart from keep searching locally.

Spooky.
i have heard of two people doing this sort of thing. seems they just walk away from their responsibility. One of these people ended up in Alaska and notified his family a year after leaving the other person was never heard of and that was 8 years ago. I do hope he'll get in contact to say he's OK
Call around hospitals, Sally army help with missing people too.
If you have local homeless shelters or feeding places, ask there, maybe check the bus and coach stations.
Ask local radio if they wvill put a message out.

He has done a similar thing a few months ago - he lost his job but didnt want to tell her so kept "going to work" for a few days. Then when she found out he left(again she didnt see him go) and was found in local woods late that night. But this has now been over 2 days and he has no money. She must be going out of her mind!
How awful! Can't really add anything, soup kitchens and hostels seems the best way forward.

If he's done it before he might be a bit savvy as to how avoid being found before he's ready to be found though :-(

Hi Eccles : )
Ive met the man many times and he does appear to be quite a worrier. I assume the police are looking in all these places suggested.
as others have suggested get people out looking, has she called the police to report missing person?
It's easy to want to run away from your problems when you know you have a safe haven, to run into the unknown you must be in a desperately dark place.

I hope he comes home soon or at least lets his family know he's OK.
Smo they may not be treating it as a priority as he is adult, not known to be seriously mentally I'll or have dementia and not frail. He has committed no crime. If it was me I would be doing the phoning around myself
Poor man Smowball and the family must be at their wits end hope he is found soon keep us informed, it's so sad these days in this climate how bad it is for some people x

Just spoke to her - there has been a sighting of a man matching a description hitchhiking near M25 apparently - they are chasing it up.
Fingers crossed x
I was told that you can not notify the Police until 24 hours is up. It is odd that he had not taken his wallet with him.

I think I would be very patient and wait for 1 day before acting on this.
Sounds like he's done a runner. Could be for a variety of reasons though 'huge hole moneywise' is a good clue.
As he is an adult the police will not do anything at all unless there is some reason to think that a crime is involved . It is not an offence for an adult to ' go missing' it happens 100s of times every day. The most the police will do is to take his description in case he turns up some where and asks for help or can not be identified. Even if the police did find him , for example if he was arrested for some reason, they will not tell you about it unless he gives permission for you to know where he is.

I dont know why the police looked before 24 hours, maybe there is more previous. Its the boy I feel for. My son went round there at 7.30 this morn before school to see if he was ok.
How are things with you smowball, did you and hubby patch things up?
How awful, the poor man must be in a bad way. I feel so sorry for his wife and son, they must be so distraught. Let us know what happens.
