C1 On License

can anyone tell me can my friend hire a 7.5 tonne van on his full uk license and drive it to spain. He's had his license for about 25 yrs plus and had one conviction for DD about 20 yrs ago. A clean license now. Thanks in advance

If he doesn't have driver CPC qualification he can hire and drive for private use only, not for reward.
In any case it'll be up to the hire company when it all shakes out.

Category C1
You can drive vehicles weighing between 3,500 and 7,500kg (with a trailer up to 750kg).
C1 is a medium sized vehicle up to 7500kg.Licensing and hire shouldnt be a problem but allowing the hired vehicle to be driven abroad may be.

Thank-you. Does it make any difference to the catergories on the new photo card license. I still have the old paper license and its lists C1 on mine but wondering if its the same on the photocards.
Same on my photocard licence
yes it's C1 and C1E in mine and it was renewed for the picture less than 2 years ago so I'd say he's fine.
