If a bank pays money into my account by mistake can i keep it?

No. And it may not have been the bank's error- it could have been an OAP or any other ordinary person who made a simple keying error when transferring money on line. If you made a simple mistake like that when transferring money I'm sure you'd want it back.
I'm sure that this is really a retorical question and that you are really too honest to keep money that does not belong to you.
you will be committing a theft; and banks usually will prosecute if it is a reasonable amount.

you are actually required to tell them you have been paid money not due to you.
no i would not touch it as they will only want it back
