I gave a door key to a good friend of mine as few years back, but recently felt i couldn't trust them like i used to... we're still friends but not like we used to be. Without offending them, how could i ask for my key back, I don't want to offend or fall out with them completely, but just feel I want it back. I don't feel I could just ask for it outright as think this might upset them and they might start asking questions why. Any ideas?

just say you need some work done soon by a relative and you need your spare set of keys back as you have no other spares. they shouldnt question it, after all they are your keys!
Sorry but if you don't trust him any more your only option is to change the lock. Copies could be made and you would never know until you come home to an empty house.
yes, a good point singapore
make out your locked out and have lost your keys (if you have a partner) say you can't get hold of them and then say i get it back to you when i get a copy, but always forget to do it. this , or you have a relative staying and you need the key for them to come and go as they please. hope this gives you an idea.

Good point Singapore, never thought of that (DOH !)... I might just have to change the lock. I thought though if i asked for them while they weren't prepared for it, they wouldn't get the chance.... but like you say you never know !

Just that they've lied to me recently on a number of occasions, I've given them loads chances to come clean about a few things and they've blantantly continued to lie.... I felt if was a friend and that they would tell me the truth at least.
Might be safer to change the locks.

A friend's partner had loads of food going missing and thought it was his son. After a while son denied it and something else wierd happened I think so police were contacted who set up a camera then a trap and they caught a load of kids who were going in and just helping themselves to food and stuff!!!

Not quite the same but scary thought people could be getting into the property without you knowing.

I'm not saying they are but for all you know they could have lost the key and not even told you or even left it somewhere for you and it disappeared and you never knew.
