Pay.
It's worked beautifully in Ireland.....if it makes people think more about what happens to them I'm all for it....

I have those little foldaway bags in my handbag and for a bigger shop I have the dreaded, blinged up trolley......☺
Pay.
I've got at least a dozen reusable bags in my car but on the odd occasion I forget to take them into the shop. I would probably put the shopping back into the trolley/ basket and bag it at the car, depending on how much of a rush I was in. If it was just a few bits I would probably pay for one carrier bag.
If it is clearly displayed, then why go to the checkout without your own bags if you don't want to pay the 5p
I would ask first did the store have an empty box for me to use if not I would take my shopping in the trolley and place it all in the boot of my car then find some bags when I get home to get it into the house, why should I pay 5p even to advertise for them ?
Aldi & Lidl don't give bags but most people [except men customers] remember to bring their own, or leave bags in the car a does Margo for this purpose.
I'd pay. I have lots of reusable bags but I often forget them.
No car here. so I remember my bags or pay- simple.
Really Dee Sa...you'd unload your shopping onto the belt, back into your trolley, load into the boot of the car, and bag up outside your house....all to save about 20p.
I'd pay. It's a good idea. Am I the only one with an entire kitchen cupboard stuffed to bursting with old carrier bags?
Me too Prudie.
Gness, do Ireland even give you the option to pay for a bag? Whenever we go back you use the brown bags they supply.
I recycIe mine as dog poo bags - so I'd happiIy pay as I onIy ever do a smaII shop with a maximum of two bags.
who would leave their shopping for the sake of 5p ??
I'm thinking the same thing ivor
We've paid for bags in Wales for a few years now - I have a boot full of foldaway bags and 'bags for life'

but it might not just be 5p it could be a lot of shopping. what will happen with the home delivery service I wonder, will they charge you for every bag they use. someone I know had 28 bags of shopping delivered, so that's another £1.40 more to pay
Looks like I'll have to start buying plastic bin liners instead of recycling free carrier bags.

It's going to be a faff for the shops, too.

That's a good point, gina. The home delivery shoppers are very generous with carrier bags, often putting only one item in a bag.
You can ask for bagless. At least with Tesco you can. You bring the crate straight into your kitchen.....or they do.
