Ive just been accepted at uni to do a 3 year adult nursing diploma (Jan 2011) which im thrilled to bits about. I'm currently employed as a healthcare advisor selling medicines etc but would love to get a job with hands on! (care home, etc) just until uni starts, but as i dont have any experience or NVQ then what are the chances of someone employing me. I have thought about voluntary work but due to financial difficulties i need a paid job. Does anyone have any ideas or am i wasting my time?

Hi - congratulations on being accept for pre-reg nursing, that is a great achievement! Have a look in your local paper for jobs in care homes as care assistants, but also look at the national NHS jobs website www.jobs.nhs.uk
where all the vacancies - at all levels - in the NHS are advertised. You may be lucky and find some short-term agency work by registering with your local NHS bank. Don't worry about not having the NVQ as yet, that is a requirement for some NHS HCAs, you would have to work towards that if you were on a permanent post but you are going on to better things starting in January! There are a couple of jobs at the moment (it depends where you live) if you put "Health Care Assistant" in the Search box on the NHSjobs page, quite a few come up, and there is at least one for a Bank job. You have to register and apply on-line these days for all NHS jobs - goodluck!
just a phone call to local care homes will secure you a position.....they're desperate for staff
you will get placements within your course work
