I work in a school.

We are allowed time off for our childrens hospital appointments but it is unpaid leave. likewise for funerals only if it is for relatives than they allow time off on paid leave but for friends its unpaid leave.

Is this common policy for anyone who works in a school?

I think it's pretty much common policy for anyone who works anywhere.
Sounds about right.

I can't see why you'd be paid to take your child to hospital or anywhere else, unless you took it as annual leave

we don`t have annual leave in school as we have all the holidays off.

I have been doing alot of extra work in school but not paid for it.

I understand about not being paid if you take you child to hospital so I offered to make up the time by working my break and lunch but they said no.
