I have been with my employer for nearly 6 years (full time). I am currently on long term sick (since 20th Jan 2005) with an illness that although it will never go away does (hopefully) go into remission. I am now on half pay which will last for 3 months and then I presume no pay. My husband would like to take me away for a week or so abroad to help me recouperate. Does anyone know if this is allowed whilst signed off work.

I had a friend who did this. She was off with "depression" for 6 months and went on holiday about three times! Didn't tell her employer, because it looked too suspicious (and in her case it WAS suspicious...) but there's nothing stopping you. If you're signed off work from the doctor, but fit to fly, then go for it.

In Germany, anything that helps the recovery is allowed.

I could imagine it's the same in England.

Holiday pay whilst on extended sick leave is allowable, under certain conditions. I would suggest getting in touch with your local CAB

This happened when my sister found she had SLE and her company were very good, she managed to get back to work after 18 months but as she couldn't stand the sunshine my brother-in-law took her to Scotland for the fresh air. her employers kept her contract open on extended leave and she is also in full remission now after 4 years

Thanks dot.hawkes that is what I have been diagnoised with. Although the sun does affect me we have the chance of a free villa for a week and need to go before it gets too hot. My company have not really been supporting me and I just don't want to give them any ammunition to get "rid" of me. Not that they have any reason to up until now I had hardly had any sick or caused any problems. Does anyone know where I stand legally.
