Does anyone know if there are any employment laws regarding women who work nights and days shifts who fall pregnant? Does the employer have to make the shifts more suitable, such as permanent days, or does the woman have to carry on working as usual? I've heard working alternate shifts can be bad for pregnant women

Check with your local HSE: pregnant workers are entitled to risk assessments, access to Safe Systems of Work, etc. This can often mean transfer to less arduous duties.

This is the HSE leaflet regarding expectant mothers. If a doctor or midwife states nightshifts should not be worked, alternative arrangements must be made or, if that is not possible, the woman should be suspended on full pay.
