Or punch the speaker on the nose?  My current rage trigger is 'give back'.  I am doing this (voluntary work, joined the police/fire service/became a councillor....) because I want to give back.

In a restaurant, the army command of "Enjoy."

I have to bite back 'or what' when the wait staff say that to me, DTC.

You should ask, "Or what ?"

Going forward.

Laser focused.

'Reached out' in stead of contacted

"Impact" instead of "Effect/affect".

I seem to be hearing "Can I get...." instead of "May I have....".  Grrrrrrrr.  I have no idea why it irritates me so much.

My narrative

Question Author

Oh yes, I get emails in reply to my complaints that start 'Thank you for reaching out'. Hate it.

Learn instead of teach, but I've been hearing that since was knee high to a grasshopper, maybe it's a regional thing. 'Will you learn me to drive?'  and 'That'll learn you'

"End of", particularly when used by TTT because he will continue the argument/debate long after typing the words. I pulled him up on it the other day and his reply was basically it doesn't mean end of discussion to him. He didin't say what it meant, though.

"So....." before every answer

"It's been a rollercoaster".  Much worse if it was "literally a rollercoaster".

Unless it was a rollercoaster.  Which it never is.  Until now - 🎢

doesn't bother me, Barmaid, "May I have..." always appears to be asking permission, and I don't want permission, I want a slice of cake. "Can I have" seems to be checking that it's still on the menu, which makes more sense to me.

"Get-go" is invading  from America. "Start" always sounded perfectly adequate to me.

Question Author

I can't abide 'end of', either.  When anyone uses that expression they know they've lost the argument.

L-i-K, how about a 'rollercoaster journey'?

My current hate is ' Mark making' when used to describe an artist's method of working.... Pretentious

Yeah, they splodge some ink or dye On the fabric before they add stitching or whatever...

Also

Also 'reach out'.  I hear it or see it in an email at least once a day at work.  3 years ago I'd never heard of it. We used to say 'ask'.

Can or may must depend on one's upbringing. My mother always corrected me if I said can I have rather than may I....

Also.... People saying Oh em gee.... When it's the same blooming syllables to say oh my god!    Where does that come from,  basically anyone who vocalises text speak ....

Prudie, I think the idea behind "reach out" is that you're trying to contact someone via email or X or whatever but you have no idea if you've got through to them; so it's before you can actually ask them anything.

Question Author

I have heard people say 'lol'.
