do you have to be unemployed to use the job centre or can you just be looking for a change in job? do they have professional jobs there, or is it mainly unskilled/low paid?

anyone may use it..
anyone can use it, don't expect to find a job there though, i never did.
i found a job through the job centre, think they are online beds
online it's now Universal jobmatch
(Useless website)
many rejects that work there, sorry if anyone on here is or has worked in one, but quite frankly it would be better unmanned, just go in press buttons on the consoles to look for jobs, then if anything takes your eye contact the company direct. Hardly needs dozens of staff in these places.

thanks. What about professional jobs?
i can't remember i think there was a good range of jobs but for professional you'd be better off with an agency that specialises or use one of the online ones like jobsite

thank you, i just wanted to cover all bases
I was in local jobcentre last thursday, total of local jobs : 81
70 of them catalogue distributors. self-employed and must have own transport.
Nothing for professionals or skilled trades-people.
i found the same years ago, and the people behind the desks, bored, irritated mostly, and wishing they were someplace else.
As Albaqwert has indicated, the database which is available in JobCentre Plus is also online here:
https://www.gov.uk/jobs-jobsearch

It's best to just enter your postcode on the first page and then use the filters on the next page. However the bit that says "You can still search and apply for jobs without an account" is misleading. The system is designed to ensure that people register first (which involves going through the laborious and time-consuming process of getting a Government Gateway account) otherwise the contact details for applying for posts aren't displayed!
Not paint everyone with the same brush Em10 how judgemental, take it you found a job where you could work on your own so you don't offend people.
Bednobs you can do jobsearch via gov.uk the jobsearch side of things is now run by Monster its had a few teething problems but appears to be improving. Both skilled and unskilled are there but in all honesty most professional jobs are advertised online by companies direct or via agencies
Like others have said do it online. I went into my local job centre 5 years, was looking at jobs on the computer and was asked if I was unemployed, said no but was looking for another job, I was then told to go home and look as the centre was for unemployed. Charming
Why bother? Absolutely useless at helpng you to find a job. Good at ticking boxes, telling you to fill in forms, getting their quotas fulfilled, making you go on inappropriate courses, run by inept people. Good at humiliating people.
