last week no.2 daughter and grand-daughter came to stay. lovely to see them as the last time we met was at my mother's funeral in august.

i said we were thinking of down-sizing and the instant comment from grand-daughter was "but where would we stay if you do that?" "and if i come to down here to study where will i spend my weekends?"

i'm flattered she wants to stay with us but what would you have said in reply?

by the way grandson have just rung and said they are travelling down overnight and would like to stay for a few days as they have some time off work.

leaving the key in the front door when i go to bed.

If you're ready to downsize, then do it, you can't keep a large house just so that the granchildren can come stay now and again!...
What are Grand children? only joking, don't have any.
if you've got a garden, tell them to bring a tent.

that's very advice wellshi but unfortunately not really possible at the moment and it has nothing to do with grandchildren. i was just amazed at the speed of her response.
It's nice they want to visit, but you have to think of yourself day to day now, and the difficulties of keeping up a larger house. You can always get a sofa bed....
Question Author
jno - they'd be happy to do that, one of them teaches survival courses and another one is a marine so camping would be no problem.
not so speedy janine!.........took about 4 mins I think!....good for me though!......lol.......

Question Author
night-night welshi. sleep tight.
I don't know how big your house is but if you down size could you still have a spare room or a sofa bed in the lounge?

You might not see them very often but it is likely to be even less if there's no-where to stay and you might regret that in the end.

maidup i am quite resigned to not seeing them very often as they are all leading very busy lives and have to drive 350 + miles to come and see me. any visit is a great treat. i was just surprised that she considers it part of her life to come and stay with us. she is 18 and just thought she would have so much else she would rather be doing.
Grandson (aged six) to friend. "Come in and see my grandma - she's OLD!"
Question Author
starbuck - love it. don't you just adore them when they say things like that. i could not be offended. lol
That's nice LJ, and an 18yr old who has the sense to know how unconditonal love works! Hot meals, washing machine, cosy afternoon when she wants some quiet time and a spare bed when she needs it too.
I thought it was reallly funny lady-j. As you said, he is adorable and he loves me as I do him.
You lucky lucky people.
