My neice started primary 7 today and has a new teacher. When she asked to go to the toilets, she was refused permission. This has never happened before. Is this a new policy? Does anyone know the ruling regards toilet breaks? I think its shocking that kids, while being encouraged to drink water all day, are not allowed to go to the toilets. I know some kids may try it on, but on the first day, surley the teacher has to allow some leeway.

You would need to ask the school...I don't think there is a national policy on loos.
Was it during a lesson or just before break? If it's during the day she should have let her go but if it was 5 minutes before small break or lunch the teacher would have probably wanted her to wait. Just a thought x
If she is age 10 then it is important I think that the school prepares its students for secondary school where in my experience most have a policy of no toilet visits during lessons except in exceptional circumstances or there is an agreemnet for medical reasons.
But the primary school should inform everyone and I can see a good case for phasing it iover a few weeks.
But I can also see why her new teacher might want to start as she means to go on - set the rules on the first day.
