larger companies run post graduation programmes. If you can afford to go in on a junior wage this seems to a viable option.
Many large companies are trying to import graduates from India. Although some restrictions are in force such as minimum salary they are forced to pay out you will find yourself in competition with them.

They did something similar in the past where they exported British jobs to India not because they were better qualified but because of the lower wage rates. Be warned!
When I worked for a large company in London more than 30% of the new IT staff were graduates from foreign countries that have studied here. Rather than take their expertise back home many of them seemed to evade their visa restrictions and stayed on. The companies liked it, the government liked it and so did the students themselves.
I'm pleased to learn that Java has good IT courses. Being so close to Singapore, you should be able to pick up work quite easily.

Do you have any programming skills or have you just some experience with a programming language? Though these days it doesn't seem to matter, we have guys knocking out syntacticly correct programs with no algorithmic ability whatsoever.

While hands-on experience is great to have, most IT jobs require you to have a certificate of completion from an IT certification school [ https://www.asher.edu/career-college/asher-college-it-career-programs/ ] or something similar. This is largely due to the fact that most career colleges and programs place you in an internship to help give you hands-on experience that the school can stand behind and that it’s not just you saying that you have this experience. Plus, by attending school in this field, you will receive the in-depth knowledge and training you will need to succeed.
