I have a compaq armada E500 laptop and a PCMCIAwireless LAN card. I also have an AProuter connected to my desktop which receives wireless broadband from a local ISP. My laptop won't connect to the internet although it tells me i have a signal. I would be very grateful if anyone can help me. Many thanks.

Try the easy things first. Switch your modem, router, pcs off at the mains. That is very important.

Wait 30 seconds and switch back on this order:

1,. Modem - wait 30 seconds
2. Router, if seperate - wait
3. Pc and laptop.

This can often resolve the problem.

Thanks for the quick response. Have done all that but the laptop still cannot find the server. As you can tell I don't know much about these things.

Thanks
Try turning the firewall off very TEMPORARILY on the laptop

If it now connects, you know the firewall is the problem
