both myself and my husband have just been declared bankrupt. We have equity on our house and want to sell to pay off our debt. There has been a trustee appointed.... can we sell the house on on through our own solictor or does the trustee HAVE to do it?

If you tell the trustee that you will sell the house then he may well let you, as it will save him trouble, and probably realise a better price.
IF the equity will pay off all your debts then it may well be worth while seeking to enter into Individual Voluntary Arrangements and having the bankruptcy anulled, but you will need advice on that.
