Is it because they have been starved of cash or is it more likely they are wasteful and incompetent. They should only be focused on the basic important local services that people pay for. Not indulging virtue signalling such as  their ridiculous pointles departments such as climate change or diversity.

I know pensioners who have done blue collar jobs all their lives and pay council tax.  I know others who have been equally industrious and don't. All should have the right to vote.

Sorry Barry I missed a word out of my last post.  It was 'not', ie why shouldn't people who have worked on a factory floor all their lives NOT pay CT?

Because their state pension is so tiny (more often they are widows)  they qualify for pension credit and full council tax benefit; because they live in a care home and have no council tax to pay; or they live with family like my two oldsters and have no council tax pay.

Their lack of private or work place pension and savings is not a reflection of their work ethic or indicative of wreckless spending but a reality of hard graft for poor wages and lack of opportunity

I don't believe for one moment there are no scope for cuts without affecting essential services such as care homes. I would bet anything if I went through their budgets I could find savings that would not be noticed by the vast majority of council tax payers.
