I know nothing at all about joinery but have to dispose of professional, used tools.
Is there a market for them, and what is the best way to sell them?

I would certainly think there is a demand for second hand tools – especially a high quality brand. Take a look at what similar items are being offered/sold for on ebay.

Being someone who is careful with his money – I often wonder what the difference is between a power tool at £30 and one at £150 (other than £120). But those who pay £150 know why the power tool costs over £100 more than the cheaper model.
It might depend upon exactly what type of tools they are but Tony Murland specialises in buying and selling traditional craftsmen's tools. (The business is promoted as selling 'antique' tools but it also sells, either directly or as auctioneers, quality secondhand tools):

Sorry, I should have linked to the home page:

If the tools are the typical hand tools (that is, not to large) chisels, mallets and such and if you can take some reasonably good photographs you could list them a few at a time or even individually on Ebay.

I've had very good results with several older tools I had acquired from estate sales here in the U.S.
They need to be small enough that they'll ship for a reasonable fee...
