I am not that familiar with using DVD's but found today that when I tried to fast forward using the "skip" button,I seemed tolose large chunks of the movie? Why can you not pause a DVD like a video, then go back towhere you were? That is to me one of the main flaws with DVD's,I've also had 3 or 4 recently I rented from an online club or library, which wouldn't play.I was told it was probably a compatibility issue, not something you got with video.I know video has it's downside but I resent the fact that we are told DVd's are perfect when in fact they obviously are not. And I don't require all these "extras" etc.!

Most DVD Films are seperated into smaller sections called Chapters. This means you can select a starting point throughout the movie or select a specific scene.

On most remotes there are twotypes of serch button that look similar. One will fast forward the movie, often at increasing speeds if you press it multiple times. The other skips forward by chapters, giving the impression that chunks have disappeared.

I am generalising here now but all DVD's I have come across DO have a pause button. If you still have it , check the manual that came with the machin e to see where they have decided to hide yours. Sometimes companies choose design of their remotes over practicality.

DVD's are Region dependant. The world is split into these regions and some will play on your machine and others won't.

Most modern players are multi region compatible and should play all regions although some brands won't.

Your club shouldn't really send you DVD's that are of a different region to the country you are in. I belive Europe is Region 2.

Hi

You can pause and re-start from where you were - the pause button look something like ll and the play button l>

When you try to fast forward, make sure you press the button >> and not >>l

Lastly, if you bought your DVD player in the UK from any normal shop (ie not a dodgy import off the net or anything like that) it will be a region 2 player. Make sure the DVDs you try to watch are also region 2 (should tell you somewhere on the back of the case) and you should be fine.

this sounds to me like a bad case of the workman blaming her tools !
I would cry if I had to watch another "VHS" again!
On some remote controls, the "Pause" button may be called "Still". It all depends on the manufacturer.
