We have run into a slight cash flow problem and so Sky has cut off our Sky channels, which is fair enough. However, I thought that the +Box features would remain in situ as we bought our box and can still watch the terrestrial channels & Freeview channels. The pause, playback and record doesn't work now. Am I being naive? in expecting this?

The Sky+ services (record, playback, etc.) are subscription only. If you do not pay for them you do not get them.

Oh bummer. I thought that like a Freeview+ box that you can buy, the features were in the box regardless of who you bought it from.
nope, sky+ works through the second feed in your skydish, so no subscription = no sky+
