Jon - sorry I wasn't being sarky.  I bought a replacement door seal, just look up washing machine spares in Yellow pages.  Thought it'd be a straighforward job, it ain't.  After several hours, skinned knuckles, cursing swearing & the like, I called up an engineer, who came round & did it I think for about �20.  Tried ringing hotpoint their techy desk may give you some advice.
