Broken zipper -lost slider - how to repair

I have a leather jacket and the slider has come of ( and is lost ) the zip.Any thoughts on repair as I don't have the �30 the alteration shop wants.

If the zipper and its slider are both brass, I've had some success with obtaining a new slider and its pull and using a thin bladed flat scredriver prying the side that is on the side with the fixed stop only slightly apart... just enough to be forced over the teeth and then using a pair of pliers (not the Philipino airlines pilot and co-pilot ) to squeeze it back together just enough to work... If your's is nylon or some such though I don't know if it would work.
