Why do cars with three doors have back windows that do not wind down, whereas cars with five doors do?

Because it would be almost impossible to fit them and access them for servicing/maintainence purposes on a three door model, and possibly the strength of the construction would be compromised. And it's cheaper to have fixed windows.
it is because in a 3dr the back windows are sittuated over the rear wheels thus they would have no room to wind a window into the body work because of the wheel arch
