Sorry if this is a bit of a daft question, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what information is featured on a death certificate, please? I've never seen one (or needed to!), but I'd like to know if it would possibly say what the cause of death was. I need to know whether it's worth while ordering it, as that's all I need to know.

Thanks in advance, whisks. :)

Hi whiskeysheri
Yes, it does state the cause of death on a certificate.
It can list a few things but the primary cause is always at the top.

sorry iap but when my dad died here in england it did ask on it where he was born.
It does give a reason, but can sometimes be an incomplete one, like 'old age' which can cover anything from a pulmonary embolism to a heart attack. I had a part time job as an organist for a local undertaker, and some of the paperwork from the hospital gave the impression of being written by someone wanting to clear off quickly for the night.

Apparently it is not possible, though I am not an expert, to tell how somebody died without a post mortem, so a fair chunk of the papers produced are based on incomplete information.
