What happens if the money from a cheque you hand your bank does not enter your account? I gave them a cheque 2 weeks ago and its still not gone in, unfortunately I didnt keep the receipt. Does this mean that they cannot trace it? Im with Natwest.

Hi,
the bank should keep a record of all trasactions, I would go to the branch, ask for a statement on your account and see if it has been recorded. there should be an available balance, you can question this.
Also, did the person giving you the cheques keep a record, there should be a number on the stub on their cheque book

Its a cheque from the tax office.
I would also contact your Tax Office. They will have records of the date, cheque number, etc and will tell you if the cheque has been processed. It may well have gone into someone else's account! The Tax Office will also advise you on what to do.

A cheque from a Government agency? even better, they will have a serial number of the cheques they sent you, they will also know whether or not they have been cashed.
If they havn't appeared in your account explain the situation to the Tax Office and ask them to cancel those ones and re~issue you two more, or one for the full amount
I would just walk into the bank and politely but firmly request to speak to the manager.

They messed up, They can put in the effort sorting it out.
Never mind the manager, any wee pleb in the bank can fix this for you - go to the branch that you paid it into.
