having bought a farm with a friend and convertied the barn into another house, how do we go about splitting the deed for the original property into two seperate deeds ?

go to a solicitor and he will do all the work required to have it all drawn up and registered with the land registry
No, you do not of necessity have to waste your money on the big money up front big money for nothing brigade. It involves only two sets of identical Forms from the Land Registry, a couple of plans, LR Fees of just over �100 and two SDLT Certificates. All easy DIY for the average person. Speak to your local District Land Registry Office who will guide you through.
