Can someone explain the difference between a vented and a condesing tumble dryer, and what would make you buy one over the other

A vented tumble dryer discharges the steam outside the unit, so unless you want your house full of steam you must connect it to the great outdoors somehow.
Some use an extending 'elephants trunk' that hangs out of the window, others have a permanent connection through an outside wall.
A condensor dryer turns the steam into water, which is collected in a tank within the dryer.
For years I had a vented dryer and was very pleased with it - I would never have had a condensor dryer.
Circumstances changed and I could not site my drier anywhere near an externalwall or window and was forced to buy a condensor.
I would not go back! It is superb - but I believe the running costs MAY be higher. This is not the case for me because the sensor is very accurate and stops as soon as the washing is dry.

I have a Miele condenser dryer, it is very user friendly. Lets you know when the collection drawer is full with an alarm sound.It is much more versatile to place, although mine is in a utility area. I bought it about three years ago and as we are a large heavy use family it has been surprisingly trouble free.Before that I had an American dryer which was much less efficient, and was the 'leccy boards best friend! I would not go back to vented now.
I would not recommend the Whirlpool AWZ 8812. It is a condenser. Does a great job....but it has had about four or five faults so far in its three year life.
Unless you buy a really good brand like Miele, it's well worth taking out an extended warranty, in my opinion.
From a convienience standpoint, condensers win every time. Just watch the brand and consider a warranty.
