Changing My Internet Provider
I currently have BT which I pay approx £50 per month for not including landline which I don't want. I would like to change but I'm confused. If I change to another provider won't I still need to plug the new hub into the telephone socket? Ideally I'd just like the new provider to just provide the hub by post and then it's just a case of me plugging it in and off I go. I don't want engineers visiting me or anything like that. I live in a one bedroom flat on my own so I'm not a huge burden on the network

Just make the change and someone else bills you for the service. But check with your intended new provider what the situation would be regarding who you pay for the physical line.
I think it depends who your new provider is. If it's Virgin they will use a different line to the house and you will need an engineer's visit. If it's talktalk you might need a visit because they have an extra box inside the house. Most other providers, I think, will just require the router swap which you can do yourself. If you're upgrading from copper to fibre you will need a visit.
You are paying far too much and really should change provider.
First of all, though, call BT and ask to be put through to disconnections.
If you are in a contract period with them, ask them what the penalty fee is for early disconnection. Tell them you have to change provider as you can no longer afford the monthly payments and other providers are much cheaper.
I am certain they will offer you a hefty discount to stay with them.
Before you call, use a price checker to see how much other providers will charge you. Some will pay the early termination fee (BRSK offered me £300).
