How are you supposed to operate these?

In particular the ones with a large button and a small one.

Press and hold or press and release?
Both together?

They have been appearing in more and more places, but no one seems to have been instructed on their use.

Not sure though, are you?
Small for liquid. Large for solids
Small button to make yellow stuff more pale, large one for anything else.
Pushing on the large on generally takes the small one with it.

It's all a bit useless.
I had one put in last year when I had the bathroom changed to a wet room.

The smaller button releases 2 litres of water and the larger one 4 litres.

Up to you to decide which button you should press. Obviously for just a pee it would be the smaller button.
Oh sorry, forgot to say I keep my finger on the button until the water has dispensed which is only a very few seconds.
