Help... I have 38 stitches on my knitting needle and I need to decrease 5 stitches evenly along the row, can anyone tell me how to calculate this, thank you in anticipation.

I think this works.

Knit two together at beginning, knit to 9th and knit two tog, knit to 18th knit two together, knit to last two and knit two together.

If not knit two together, slip 19th stitch over 9th and so on.
^ 10th stitch over 9th

Surely you've only decreased 4 stitches ie, beginning, 9th, 18th and end of row. Perhaps you meant to include 27th stich also.
