i have broadband and digital tv, on the whole i am very happy with broadband, never had it go down or lose speed at all in 3 years, however, for digital tv i do think it is Sky's poorer brother with it locking up on a monthly basis where u need to unplug the power cable for 30 seconds, which isnt a huge hassle but does make u feel like it has problems. Also the interactive elements are a little hit and miss and often prone to lock ups and not working as they should on a regular basis. However they are constantly adding more and more channels to the service and if u have a full package then most of these new channels are added for free with no sudden increases to the price of subscription (only the usual yearly small increase on some services that most companies do)
Can't fault their broadband service - very reliable and does exactly what it says on the tin. Not used their CATV service.
I've had a broadband connection with ntl for a year. I'm a student so we got a pretty sweet deal. Plus they recently upgraded from 750Kbps to 2Mbps for free, which was generous. We've also got their cable tv. It's not bad, but as twiglet said. Not up to sky by a long shot. The issue really is the box, which slows/crashes all the time. Just today I found myself only able to view last nights program listings, even though it wsa the next day. The box is slower to respond to your presses as well. Just slow enough to sometimes be annoying. On the plus side, their version of pay-per-view with films etc is very good. You can watch the film you've paid for unlimited times in the 24 hours you bought it. As well as pause, rewind etc. Nice. Sky box office doesn't have this, unless you have sky plus. Overall though, we got the internet and tv on a deal, and are quite pleased overall. They're not too expensive, i'm paying 40 for tv and internet. Not too bad.

I had cable for over 15 years first with a company called Videotron who became Cable and Wireless and then NTL.

Without doubt NTL are the worst company I have ever dealt with at any level.

On every occasion I had to deal with them directly they were appaling to wait 40-50 minutes on the phone to talk to someone was not uncommon.

You would speak to someone in one call centre, say Southampton, next time you would speak to someone in Manchester who had no idea what you were talking about.

I signed up to their digital service in December 2001 and It never came ever, they said they couldn't recable my street.

There were many similar things.

Final straw was they sent a note saying we would lose the system while they did maintenance in our local box. When it came back "up" all we could get was Sky 1. We then waited 4 days for it to be fixed it took 5 minutes because they had made an error in at the box. No apology no compensation nothing.

I rang Sky and BT had it all changed in a week.

I would never go back.

My boss has it at home, and says its the worst thing ever. She said dial-up internet speed was preferable to NTL's broadband.

I used to have NTL Broadband & Digital TV, but dropped the Digital TV in favour of SKY.

NTL TV was OK, but prone to freezing and having to unplug for 30 seconds to reset it.

Broadband I still have with NTL and although it has had the occasional downtime it's not been bad at all.  OK trying to get through to NTL on the phone is a nightmare (long, long waits), but if it costs nothing for the call then it's not so bad.

Overall I think NTL are poor at customer services, there Broadband is good and improving, and their TV is not so good.

has anyone noticed tho that customer service is excellent at getting anything added to your package but terrible if there is a problem with some fault??

Granted i have had them out for the telephone 3 times in 4 years and each time the engineer has arrived within 24 hours and fixed the problem perfectly, but actually getting them to sort out any other problems over the phone and it is a case of wait...wait...wait..handed to another department...wait...wait...cut off...start again...handed to new department...rehanded back to old department as it isnt anything they can deal with and shouldnt have got through...wait....wait...get another department...cut off....start again...first department u started off with originally with new operator says oh yes, i see there is a fault and enginner out first thing in the morning!!!!!

Thank you for all your answers. We are with NTL Broadband, TV & Telephone. It used to be quite good, but we're not 100% happy with the TV freezing all the time either & having to switch off & on again! The programme menu is never up to date & the clock is sometimes wrong! We'll give it a little longer before we decide whether to change it!
