Just what would the repercussions be if the next in-line to the throne announced that he was an Atheist?

I think personally I would split my sides laughing :-)
I think they`ll by-pass Charles for William
That's an interesting thought. He couldn't be Head of the CofE for starters, he might still be King tho. A constitutional crisis in the making??
He may very well be but he'll have been brought up to keep quiet about it.
For what it is worth to him and Cammie he will most likely keep his mouth shut.
As ayg says..........as he's supposed to become king by 'divine right' I think he'll keep his mouth shut.
Well, he`s not so what is the point in speculating about that?
Parliament would probably be asked (by the Synod of the Church of England) to repeal the relevant sections of the 1701 Act of Settlement, so that the monarch was no longer the head of the Church. (The Archbishop of Canterbury, who already heads the Church of England on a day-to-day basis, would simply take over).

237SJ, >>Well, he`s not so what is the point in speculating about that?<<<<

its called healthy discussion, you dont have to partake!!
I don't think Charles will ever be king, William will be.

Its in the stars.

Sorry, Ratter, call me old fashioned but I can`t see the point in all the `what ifs`. Maybe I`m getting old!
237SJ - how do you know he's not. He's got some pretty peculiar ideas about talking to plants. Perhaps he's a Druid.
he may well be for all we know, just because he attends church services does not mean he believes in god> in truth i couldnt care less as he has absolutely no impact on my life.
I think Charles will hang on to his right, he is already a the longest heir-in-waiting on record.
He expressed a considerable interest in Islam at one point in his life.

Very true Starbuck, maybe he is a Closet Atheist :-)
Well I met Charles (at work) once. I have to say, he seemed a really nice, well meaning man. I take as I find. i have met far worse!
box. he showed a considerable interest in camilla when he was married !
Well meaning but ineffectual like the Duke of Windsor, who when he was Prince of Wales said of the miners' plight (in Wales) "Something must be done". Nothing was , of course. They still lived in their tiny houses in poverty and went down the mines which were very dangerous. Nothing at all changed.
Yes I agree Starbuck, he is ineffectual such as the Duke of Windsor was. That is a given. Nothing has really changed as you say but I don`t have an issue with the royal family. I wonder how much money the royal family have brought to the UK. The media say that the royal wedding will bring £450 million into our economy. Is that a bad thing? I don`t think it is.
