I believe the average content of blood in an adult is 8 pints.

If a person gives a pint of blood how soon does the body replentish ie 1 week, 1 month, or what?

During that time is the body able to cope FULLY with any demands on it or could it be compared to a car engine running with oil below the dipstick mark?

Within 24 hours (plasma...the important bit) and about 3 weeks for the red cells to "catch up"

Yes...the antibodies and other important parts can cope quite nicely for 24hours.
Yes you can cope fully. I don't feel any different after giving a pint of blood...
I always went for a pint afterwards to make up the loss. I have my gold badge, and honestly never felt any bad effects.
You sound like a vampire, venator ;-)

Reminds me of the Tony Hancock sketch, The Blood Donor".

"A pint!! A pint!! That's nearly an armful!!"
Ooops. You got there before me.
My mate is soooo thin .. he goes and has it put in!
After giving blood once, I was walking to the station when I realised there aws a train due very soon.

I forgot what I had just done, and sprinted to the station. Once sitting on the train I remembered that I probably shouldn't have done that.

(By the way, they don't take a pint - I think it is more like three quarters of one)

Many many years ago my mum went and gave blood for the first time, for what reason I do not know but I remember they sent her home in an ambulance. I will never forget my fathers face and comments, still laugh about it now.
