could you 'paint' with dye/ink etc, and entire couch?

iknow you can do cushions as they are removable but how would you do the rest of the upholstery?

spray on? brush on? or would you need to rinse and fix etc

anyone know of any products?

I think I'd rather get a loose cover!
Doubt it. When you dye cushions you have to use salt...and then you have to wash at the highest temp possible for the material. If you brushed on dye I'd think that if you spill anything on it it would run.
When I first spotted this in Recent Posts I thought it said Could you dye a whale
Yes you can by using Fabric Spray.

Guess you would need a VERY well ventilated space.....
I looked into this with my old leather sofas. the best I could find was that they could be taken away and dipped. it was really really expensive.

hence "old" sofas. they've gone to a great DFS sale in the sky :o)
Don't sit on one in your white jeans or your John Travolta dance suit.
Get loose covers. Not worth the time and energy, it won't look as good as new covers or a new sofa. And if it gets a spill on it, it might damage your clothes. Although having said that, loose covers are just as expensive as a new DFS sofa ! Why not buy a sofa from Gumtree if you can't afford a new one ? Or ebay ??
I was thinking about doing the same to my sons sofabed. I know you can get fabric paints that they use in art classes. I think you paint them on with a brush. It may be time consuming though. Dylon do a fabric paint which stays soft after it dries so that sounds suitable for something like a sofa. Good luck to us both!!
