I am a widow and live alone. I need a new toilet seat and wonder if i would be able to fit it myself. I just looked at the one already in place and it looks complicated to me but I am reluctant to get a plumber to do it because it makes it such an expensive job, any suggestion welcome thank you x

Look under the back of the bowl, there will be two fixing nuts, undo them, lift off entire seat and hinge assemble, put new one in place, do nuts up again.

Love this site. Thank you all for answering immediately!!! I didn't realise the screws came out under the toilet and feel quite confident about tackling it now. Thank you all for taking the trouble to reply. See you soon (no doubt!!!) Janet

If you can't tighten the nuts sufficiently to stop the seat shifting a bit when you use it I would use http://toilidfix.co.uk. It only took a couple of minutes and worked a treat.
