Is my hot water bottle still safe to use?

With the clocks having gone back last weekend and the cooler nights approaching, I brought my hot water bottle back into use last night after being stored away for the summer. When I emptied it this morning it left behind little bits of blue rubber in the sink. I’ve had the bottle for about 4 years, so why has this just started to happen now? Is my bottle still safe to use or should I throw it away? What should I do with it?

Sounds to me like the rubber has perished. Get a new one! (or a cat)
I dont think any hot water bottles are safe. My mate fell asleep with her between lower part of legs and when she woke up it had stuck to her and burned all her skin. She is scarred

Fill it up with hot water, seal it, and place it on a towel in a dry sink for a few hours. If the towel remains dry, the bottle should be ok to use.
